About us

Cabotage Services offer supply chain advisory and management with a track record of innovative services since 1977, when we pioneered the cabotage logistics model in South Africa.

This entails the road-rail delivery of domestic cargoes in surplus shipping containers that need to be repositioned from the interior to sea ports. It creates synergies for cargo and container owners as both share in the cost. This coined our name.

When integral reefers (refrigerated containers) arrived on our shores, we were among the first to invest in purpose-built trailers with underslung generators to power them in transit, unlocking a seamless end-to-end cold chain.

From there we earned a reputation for expertly managing cargo in need of that extra bit of know-how and TLC, including foodstuffs, temperature controlled and industrial project cargoes.

In 2013 we began a phased succession plan, leading to incorporation as a proprietary limited company two years later and a management buy-out completed in 2017. Today we offer 360° managed logistics for the A→B movement of your goods, and everything around it, hands-on and with great passion.
